Sael-Vareth

Seraph interpreter and captured witness

Sael-Vareth studies what survives within people after Seraph conversion. Captured alive by Annette, it becomes a guarded source of testimony whose usefulness never makes its claims automatically trustworthy.

Annette discovers Sael-Vareth injured in a collapsed compartment and stops a trooper from killing it. Its stated function—interpretation—concerns memory, personality and the remains of a person after conversion. Annette identifies the prisoner as a true Seraph rather than a host.

Its survival creates tension with Dennis’s anti-Seraph methods. During the investigation it explains parts of the system it served and guides the evidence team, but remains in guarded custody. Later testimony is checked against records; assistance is not an absolution or an unrestricted transfer of allegiance.

Annette: captor, protector and interrogator.

Dennis Rask: threat of a lethal response constrained by custody orders.

Joel and the evidence team: recipients who must verify its testimony.
